Key People - The Investment Team

Aubrey Capital Management (Aubrey) acts in alliance with GVI as the sub-investment manager for the GVI funds.

The Aubrey Capital Management team are specialist in valuing and selecting global equities. The team, which have over 90 years of collective investment experience, comprises four founding partners and five Investment Analysts.


Barry McCorkell - CEO

Barry McCorkell  joined Stewart Ivory & Company Ltd, Investment Managers in 1986, where he was Director in charge of UK Pensions Management  and  Head of Charity and Private Client Management. In addition to these responsibilities, he managed a number of global public funds, including the Stewart Ivory Managed Equity Fund 1995-1999. He subsequently also occupied senior management roles and performed key control functions within First State Investments, which acquired Stewart Ivory in 2000. In 2003, with the acquisition by Adam & Co of the Stewart Ivory Private Client Division, he continued as an executive and latterly as a non-executive director of Adam & Co Investment Management.

A graduate in Law from Trinity College, Cambridge, Barry started his career as a solicitor specialising in trust, tax and pensions law with Linklaters & Paines solicitors in London.

Andrew Dalrymple - Investment Manager

Andrew joined Stewart Ivory in 1998 and in 1999 he established the Global Opportunities Fund, now the First State Global Opportunities Fund, which remained his signature fund throughout his tenure at First State Investments. Since inception (July 1999) through July 2006 the fund rose 105.4% compared to a rise of 3.4% in the MSCI World Index.  The Fund was top quartile over 1,2,3,4,5 years and since inception.  Andrew is also a non-executive director of the Artemis Alpha Trust.

A graduate of Cambridge University, he began his career at Cazenove & Co then joined  James Capel in 1987 and was transferred to James Capel (Far East) in Hong Kong in 1991.  He continued in his role as an Asian specialist working form UBS Warburg from 1992-1998 in Hong Kong.

  Lynne Thornton - Investment Manager

Lynne has lived and worked in several key regions including the USA, UK, Continental Europe and is currently in Asia Pacific. She worked in industry in both the consumer and industrial sectors for large firms in the US and Europe in marketing and financial roles. In 2000, Lynne founded a business and raised venture capital in the UK. She joined First State Investments in London in 2002 where she was on the global investment team and was a partner to Andrew on the Global Opportunities Fund. 

Lynne is American and is a graduate of California State University Pomona (Bsc in Finance) and has an MBA from Cambridge University.

Sharon Bentley-Hamlyn - Investment Manager

Sharon was with Walter Scott & Partners from 1992 to 2006 and from 2001 as a main Board Director. There she had a global remit following extensive research experience into the major markets of the world: the UK and Europe (including emerging Europe), the USA and Far East. However, Sharon's multi-lingual abilities, particularly in French and Italian, led to a strong interest in European markets. For almost a decade she held primary responsibility for the firm's European stock selection and also for the firm's regional European assignments, either fully discretionary or with client-specific parameters. Sharon helped develop the firm's institutional fund management business and also managed several publicly quoted SICAVs.

Sharon is a graduate of Bristol University and also has an MBA from Edinburgh University. She started her financial career with Crédit Commercial de France as an analyst in its Mergers & Acquisitions division, having originally trained as an opera singer in the 1980s.

  Simon Milne - Fund Manager

Simon was Chief Investment Officer at Murray Beith Murray Asset Management from 1998 to 2007, heading up investment strategy and asset allocation.  Over this period Simon gathered an extensive knowledge of managed funds and championed 'best of breed' managers in portfolio construction.  Prior to joining Murray Beith Murray, Simon managed institutional portfolios at Ivory & Sime in Edinburgh on both the US and Japanese desks.

Simon is a graduate of Bristol University and a member of the CFA Institute.
